City Forests is one of New Zealand’s oldest forest products producing companies with over 100 years of forest growing history.
The company owns or manages 20,084 ha of production forest growing on 25,187 ha of land within an 80 km radius of the City of Dunedin. Forest products harvested from our estate are sold to a variety of local and international customers.
Sustainable Forest Management
The company prides itself in sustainable forest management and holds Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® ) certification. We manage over 2,400 ha of permanent reserves on our land, which include some outstanding native forest and high value natural wetlands, and we are adding to this area whenever we can. We are also an active participant in the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme, with all of our eligible production forest areas either currently or planned to be registered ETS forest.
Local Community
City Forests employs local people, is active in the local community with a number of social and environmental initiatives, and profits from the company's operations benefit the Dunedin population through our shareholder, the Dunedin City Council.
